Six Basics the Gilmore Girls Would Wear This Fall

I know autumn has begun and that, like me, you have turned to The Gilmore Girls again. And you don’t have to feel guilty about anything. It’s the most obvious way to start this season where the leaves fall and where the only thing we want to survive is a Pumpkin Spice Latte. Moreover, although it’s set in a small town (Stars Hollow), its wardrobe serves as inspiration to recreate the best transitional-season looks.

The reason? It blends 90s minimalism, warm colors, and the dose of nostalgia that millennials and Gen Z have revived with such eagerness. It’s curious. The show back then had no budget. In fact, on numerous occasions the actresses have confessed that they repeated outfits and “improvised.” Now I don’t know anyone who can live without Gilmore Girls. I’m serious, I’ve even hooked my boyfriend.

You can be a fan of Rory’s peppy basics that put fitted sweaters, pleated skirts, and loafers above anything; you can be a fan of the jeans, leather jackets, and Lorelai’s boots; or you might simply want to dress using Emily’s pearls and tweed jackets. Either way, what they have in common is that they are simple, wearable basics that always work.

Six Basics The Gilmore Girls Would Wear

Tommy Hilfiger pleated skirt, 74 euros.

Tommy Hilfiger pleated skirt, 74 euros. Just seeing it makes me think of the youngest member of the dynasty. We see her wearing it to Yale, to the newspaper, or on her dates with Luke. Always with dark tights and comfortable loafers.

Diamond-pattern sweater from Mango, 49.99 euros.

Diamond-pattern sweater from Mango, 49.99 euros. She would wear it alone or over an XXL-collared shirt. Rory likes delicate, tasteful, and wearable pieces. She doesn’t usually overthink what to wear and has always played to her advantage.

Massimo Dutti leather jacket, 299 euros.

Massimo Dutti leather jacket, 299 euros. Lorelai loves beautiful, high-quality pieces. She is the most punk of the three, but her freedom and rebellion have always marked her way of dressing. We know she would get a lot of wear out of this jacket.

Salsa Jeans jeans, 89.95 euros.

Salsa Jeans jeans, 89.95 euros. She is aware of finding the balance and wanting to look feminine in a more relaxed way. We see her wearing them to go to Luke’s, for an afternoon of shopping, or to go see Rory.

COS short dress, 99 euros.

COS short dress, 99 euros. It’s the kind of dress Emily would wear and that Rory would borrow from her at some point. She’d wear it with opaque tights and pointed-toe heels. It’s very old money. And best of all, it will save you from any situation.

Swarovski pearl necklace, 220 euros.

Swarovski pearl necklace, 220 euros. The matron of the Gilmore family cannot live without her pearls. We have seen her wearing them across all seasons, but that doesn’t mean her looks look dull; quite the opposite.
