All the pieces of the puzzle are starting to fit together. Anna Wintour’s visit to Inditex’s offices in Arteixo, the already announced collaboration of John Galliano for Zara, and Marta Ortega’s unexpected debut at the 2026 Met Gala are already part of one of the fashion industry’s best marketing strategies to emerge (and one that no one saw coming).

This Monday, May 4, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York opened its doors under the theme ‘Fashion is art’, and among all the celebrity looks on the red carpet, such as Beyoncé’s look designed by Olivier Rousteing, former creative director of Balmain, Stevie Nicks has given us the first hints of what we will see from Galliano at Zara.

The First Zara Dress at the Met Gala

The American singer and songwriter not only has written her name in the history of what is known as fashion’s Oscars by wearing Zara’s first Met Gala dress, but by doing so first with a preview of the artistic collaboration that the Galician firm had confirmed a few months ago. There was no better way to debut at this gala than by daring with a spectacular piece from the brand led by Marta Ortega.

Nicks thus had the privilege of being one of the first to wear the result of what has been one of Zara’s most talked-about alliances. It is not the first time that the Spanish brand has joined forces with renowned designers to create collections that do not take long to become a success, but the collaboration with the British designer did not see coming.

Ortega advanced one more step with this collaboration, which came to light last March and which, as the artist has shown, has a lot of Galliano in it. Apparently, it will not lack those period dresses we saw so much in the 90s and that theatrical air that the rock legend has defended well.

In a deep midnight blue color, with a mix of fabrics including velvet and taffeta and with a spectacular voluminous skirt, Stevie Nicks nailed a dress code that aimed to unite fashion and art. She paired it with a hat adorned with a feather from the great maestro Stephen Jones, an expert in headpieces for the Met Gala.

El vestido de Stevie Nicks ha sido diseñado en exclusiva para ella.

But there is bad news. It is an exclusive customized design for the singer and this special dress. This means that, therefore and unfortunately, it will not be part of the official collection that Galliano has created for Zara. We will have to keep waiting to know the final designs.

Moreover, Stevie Nicks has not been the only one to bring Galician fashion to New York’s most famous event. She shared this milestone alongside Bad Bunny. The singer also wore Zara to attend this edition of the Met Gala and did so in an all-black look that represented his 53-year-old self.

With white hair and a beard, the Puerto Rican singer once again trusted Marta Ortega to stand out among the best-dressed at the event. And he did so this time in a structured suit jacket that he paired with a neck-tie blouse and a cane. Zara thus joins other low-cost brands that had already participated in this charitable gala, such as H&M or Mango.
