This week, the Spanish royal family’s agenda is marked by two events of great significance. The first, the funeral of Harald of Norway to which King Felipe and Queen Letizia attended; the second, the 2026 Spanish Grand Prix of Formula 1 that will be held in Madrid.
The capital hosts this highly anticipated sporting event, with confirmed attendance by Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía. It is the first time the two sisters attend a motorsport championship, and although they have attended other sports-related events such as tennis or football, it is a new field for them.
A weekend plan that they will attend together with King Felipe, a great enthusiast of this sport. In fact, as recently as last March, the monarch traveled to the Madrid Jarama-RACE Circuit to witness the historic celebration of the first Madrid E-Prix, the event that marked the official debut of Formula E in Spain.
This Sunday he will do so alongside his daughters, who are making their debut at what could be described as one of the royals’ favorite events. Indeed, at other grands prix such as Monaco or the Netherlands, it is common to see European royal faces like Queen Máxima of the Netherlands or Charlotte Casiraghi.
The Grimaldis are faithful to this event held in the principality. Decades ago we could see a very elegant Grace Kelly greet the drivers, or Caroline of Monaco flaunting style in the paddock. Today, it is their daughters Charlotte and Alexandra of Hanover who attend in their place.
Thus we review some of the latest outfits chosen by some of these royals that could serve as inspiration for Princess Leonor and Sofía. Will they choose sporty outfits with sneakers and trousers, or will they prefer something more elegant as Beatrice Borromeo usually does?
Charlotte Casiraghi in a purple dress
Charlotte Casiraghi’s most recent appearance at the Monaco Grand Prix was this one, in which she wore a highly sophisticated look. The daughter of Caroline chose this purple dress, a mini design with a knotted belt. A sleeveless, leather dress that she paired with two-tone Chanel ballet flats.
Beatrice Borromeo in a Dior dress
A more classic and elegant option was Beatrice Borromeo’s look in 2022. Pierre Casiraghi’s wife dazzled with a full Dior look, wearing this shirt-dress with a flared skirt and nude-tone open-back heels. A foolproof formula worthy of royalty.
Maxima of the Netherlands and Alexia, comfortable and on-trend
Leonor and Sofía can draw inspiration from the looks worn by Queen Máxima of the Netherlands and her daughter at the Zandvoort circuit. The queen opted for a printed skirt paired with wedge sandals and a white shirt. Princess Alexia chose a much more youthful outfit with flowing trousers and a strapless top.
Alexandra of Hanover in a denim dress
Alexandra is also a regular in the Monaco paddock, and in 2022 she wowed with this knee-length denim dress. It was a spaghetti-strap dress, fresh and comfortable, which she elevated with some original, comfortable-heel shoes. All of it, with the Chanel signature.
