Prada is a family affair for Uma Thurman and Maya Hawke. The star of Kill Bill helped popularize the Italian label in the United States when she wore one of its dresses at the 1995 Oscars ceremony. And her daughter has been a regular guest at her runway shows and the face of the brand’s campaigns in recent years. However, they had never attended a Prada show together until today.

Both actresses drew all eyes in a front row where other stars such as Hunter Schafer, Emilia Clarke or the recent Donostia Award recipient Naomi Watts were not missing. No one wanted to miss the show directed by Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons at the iconic Fondazione Prada, which once again explored the contrast of opposing codes that, when united, work perfectly.

Mother and daughter posed for photographers from the front row, wearing their matching autumn-inspired outfits. Uma, 56, wore a red top and a brown midi pleated skirt. She completed the look with a matching brown coat, a brown bag and black pointed-toe pumps with an open heel.

Maya, 28, opted for a black V-neck sweater and blue pleated shorts. She carried a black bag and the same pair of black heels as her mother. Both looks with color contrasts showcased autumnal tones of the season, and their coordinated knitwear was perfect for layering as temperatures drop.

The powerful bond between Uma and Maya

Maya Hawke and Uma Thurman represent two generations of talent, though they have carved out very different careers. Maya is the offspring of the actress’s relationship with another heavyweight of cinema, Ethan Hawke, so it’s not surprising that her daughter also caught the acting bug. However, in an interview with Access Hollywood, Uma opened up about why, at first, she was nervous about her eldest daughter venturing into a Hollywood career.

“Because it’s a difficult profession, in which you are often in the spotlight, and she is a sensitive person,” explained the Pulp Fiction star at the time. And she added: “I think any protective parent would feel anxious about the idea of their daughter entering that public sphere. But, after all, she is such a brilliant actress that, obviously, she could not have pursued anything else.’

Maya Hawke herself, whose career took off thanks to the series Stranger Things, has also spoken about having such famous parents and the impact this has had on her career. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, she admitted that “I always run my decisions by them. Both have a similar level of success, but very different experiences within the industry. I think that is my biggest advantage, that I have information about the problems and the good things. I hope that helps me avoid some of the mistakes young actors tend to make.

Her new married life

The Prada show in Milan marks Maya Hawke and Uma Thurman’s first joint appearance since the young actress’s wedding last February. Maya married musician Christian Lee Hutson on Valentine’s Day in an intimate ceremony held in New York City. Her mother, of course, was present, serving as her “something blue” with a flowing ice-toned evening gown.

Her father was also not missing from the event, who recently spoke about what it was like to accompany his daughter to the altar on her wedding day. “Some of the deepest moments of your life are the simplest,” Ethan Hawke said on the Today with Jenna & Sheinelle show. “It is very simple: your eldest daughter is getting married. You find yourself in a situation humanity has been living with since time immemorial. And yet, your heart breaks.”

“What is really mysterious about all of this is that I thought it would be emotional because it would be a great moment of union between us two, but the truth is that she is only thinking about the groom,” he added, referring to his daughter. “That is what makes it so moving. You look back on her childhood and all the time you have spent raising her. And she looks ahead to her life. It is normal, it is right, but, in some way, it hurts.”
