The autumn is synonymous with shedding. It doesn’t matter who you ask; everyone will tell you they notice more hair falling out. The first thing you need to know is that this is within normal parameters. In other words, September coincides with the hair renewal, so it’s common to notice more hairs in the shower or on the brush. That said, it doesn’t mean you have to settle for it.
Much less so in 2026, when the availability of anti-hair-loss treatments is so broad. However, before anything, I have to debunk a myth, and that is that no product will completely prevent you from losing hair. If a hair follicle is going to fall, it will. What this does not mean is that another follicle won’t replace it immediately or that they will all do so at once. Each hair follicle has its moment and the ‘seasonal hair loss period‘ lasts only a few weeks (which can feel eternal, I know).
So, are anti-hair-loss products a scam? Not exactly. Types of hair loss are numerous (seasonal, hormonal, androgenetic…), and this class of treatments has the goal of creating a healthy environment for your mane to grow healthy, strong, and fast. Therefore, it is the extra helping hand you need for the in-between season.
However, you need to be consistent (and patient) with them. And not all of them work the same. In fact, there is a scalp serum in particular that my TikTok algorithm kept showing me. So, I put it to the test, and after three weeks of using it, these are the changes I have noticed.
The Kérastase serum everyone is talking about
Genesis Fortifying Anti-Hair-Loss Serum by Kérastase.
Anti-hair-loss serum and TikTok viral video are synonymous with Kérastase. Indeed, I’m sure you’ve seen it or someone you know has mentioned it. I’m referring to the Kérastase Genesis Fortifying Anti-Hair-Loss Serum. This leave-in treatment is designed for weakened hair that shows a higher tendency to breakage and shedding. Its aim is to reinforce the fiber from the root and, at the same time, care for the scalp to create a more favorable environment to keep hair resilient.
Note that it is more associated with brushing-related shedding, something not everyone takes into account, but due to its formula with caffeine, arginine and ginger root it provides an ideal support to strengthen hair follicles during seasonal shedding and to promote the balance of the scalp’s protective barrier. The brand recommends applying four doses to the scalp, with dry hair or towel-dried hair (and paying special attention to areas where density feels lower). Then you just need to let it work overnight.
One of its biggest advantages is that it is leave-in. However, in my case I have thick, dense, and very long hair, and I could feel the roots dirty in the morning. So I washed it every day. The good part is that it helped me establish a routine, and now I train at seven in the morning so I can shower afterward. As for the results… Yes, I notice that my hair falls less and breaks less. Also, it’s very pleasant and smells great. Therefore, considering its power and price, I think it’s worth (and a lot) it.
Another serum aimed at seasonal shedding
Champo Pitta Growth Serum.
Champo Pitta Growth Serum. You will have heard of it as well, because it is also one of Sephora’s bestsellers. One bottle is sold every thirty seconds. Designed by trichologists, this advanced treatment has clinically shown to reduce hair loss and shedding, while visibly improving its thickness and density.
It contains caffeine and red clover that act on the hormone of shedding in hair, the DHT, to minimize loss and natural shedding, while improving volume and density. It also contains a pioneering complex of peptides and polyphenols that energizes the hair from the root, while creatine and lipid amino acids help maintain an optimal scalp condition and protect it from dandruff. That said, like the previous one, you have to be constant and apply it daily.
