Spring Skin Treatments: Expert Explains What You Can Do

With the arrival of good weather, many people postpone any aesthetic treatment for fear that the sun will irritate the skin, promote the appearance of blemishes or alter the results. However, not everything is prohibited. Far from the idea that in the sunniest months it is wise to completely renounce this type of care, increasingly more dermatologists insist that there are procedures that can be carried out safely if they are well indicated and accompanied by strict sun protection.

In general, the treatments that cause the least surface alteration of the skin tend to be more compatible with this season, while other procedures, such as more intensive peels or certain lasers, require much more caution. The key is not so much the calendar as the type of technique. While some procedures leave the skin sensitized, reddened or in the midst of renewal, others act more deeply or in a controlled way and allow continuing with the usual routine without compromising the skin barrier as much. In that sense, dermatologist Belén Ruffin clarifies this on her Instagram with a very concrete question: “What treatments can be done on the skin in the months of higher sun exposure?”

Treatments that are recommended during sunny periods

According to the expert, there are indeed several procedures that can be carried out during the months of greater sun exposure. “The treatments aimed at the lower third such as Morpheus, Ultherapy, collagen inducers and hyaluronic acid fillers,” she notes.

This type of treatments share an important idea: they do not seek to provoke an intense exfoliation of the skin’s surface, but to work on firmness, redefining or skin quality from deeper layers. Therefore, when properly guided, they fit better in spring and summer than other procedures that leave the skin more vulnerable.

In the case of hyaluronic acid fillers, for example, dermatological evidence notes that there may be inflammation, redness, sensitivity or small bruises after the treatment, but there is no aggressive renewal of the superficial layer, as happens with other more intense procedures.

Also fitting in this group are collagen inducers, which help to improve firmness and skin quality, and technologies such as Morpheus or Ultherapy, highly sought after when a lifting or redefining effect is desired without long recovery times.

Cleansing, radiance and prevention: what works best in this season

Belén Ruffin also recommends those treatments that “go toward deep cleansing of the skin and improving brightness with smart cleansings and superficial peels.” This nuance is important, because not all peels are the same.

When talking about superficial peels, we refer to softer, controlled techniques that are compatible with a faster recovery. Still, aesthetic dermatology insists that even in these cases photoprotection is mandatory and sun exposure must be avoided in the days following to reduce the risk of irritation or changes in pigmentation.

Another treatment mentioned by the dermatologist are neuromodulators, which she defines as “the perfect prevention for these months”. This type of procedure fits especially well for those seeking discreet, natural results and without long recovery times, something particularly valued when social schedules multiply and you don’t feel like going through more aggressive treatments.

Which treatments are better left for after the summer

Compared to these treatments, there are others that tend to fit worse when the sun is strong. This is the case of resurfacing lasers, dermabrasion or medium and deep peels, since these are procedures that can leave the skin reddened, thinner, flaking or in the healing phase.

The essential gesture: protect the skin every day

If there is one thing all experts agree on, especially when aesthetic treatments are combined with sun exposure, it is the importance of photoprotection. Not only to prevent blemishes, but also to maintain results, prevent inflammation and protect the skin from premature aging.

Therefore, beyond the chosen treatment, incorporating a good daily sunscreen is essential. Two options that fit especially well in this routine are a sunscreen from Freshly Cosmetics, ideal for those seeking lightweight and pleasant textures for day-to-day use, and another from Cantabria Labs, a brand highly recognized for its dermatological approach and its high efficacy against radiation.

Because in the end, more important than undergoing a treatment in summer is knowing how to take care of the skin afterward. And there, good sun protection remains the step that makes all the difference.
