The 2026 Oscars will not go down in the history of the awards for their sentimental value nor for any epic battles: they unfolded with their already routine effectiveness without thrills, to the greater glory of the industry that made the United States great. Not even the red carpet, once the stage for the occasional upheaval, brought shocks, neither for better nor worse. One more year, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences did what it does best: create a bubble of beauty and glamour where to shelter.
The truth is that the final list of Oscar 2026 winners, with a few exceptions, largely confirms the betting pools. Time after time, the tenth film by Paul Thomas Anderson takes the night’s triumph ahead of Sinners, the only one that could have overtaken it for starting with the largest number of nominations: 16. It was forecasting that Sentimental Value would take the international Oscar in a tight race with Secret Agent. The night’s disappointment went to the Marty Supreme crew, who went home empty-handed despite their 9 nominations, including Best Actor for Timothée Chalamet.
Actually, Sirât, the Spanish film, was doomed, although the three sound nominations could have won the statue. But, anyway, it wasn’t a night for surprises, we insist, something that the stars calmly strolling the red carpet already hinted at. The sophisticated and fireworks-free designs of Emma Stone, Anne Hathaway, or Nicole Kidman promised an elegantly dull night, and so it was. This is the list of nominees and winners at the Oscars
