Before a wedding, I don’t just think about the dress, the shoes or the hairstyle. I also attach great importance to how I prepare the skin, because I have found that good makeup doesn’t start with foundation, but long before. When the face is balanced, hydrated and with good texture, the makeup sits better, lasts longer and that dewy finish that flatters so much looks much more natural.
Over time I’ve learned that, just before an event, less is more. It’s not the moment to try new treatments, nor to over-exfoliate, nor to stack too many products for fear the skin looks dull. What really works is a simple routine, focused on cleaning gently, hydrating well and keeping the skin comfortable. That balance is what makes the makeup not crack, not crease and maintain the glow throughout the celebration.
The night before I already try to help the skin arrive at its best moment. I usually do a gentle cleanse and apply moisturizing and calming products, avoiding any active that could irritate or alter the texture of the face. When the skin wakes up rested and without redness, the makeup needs less product and the result tends to be much more beautiful.
On the wedding day I begin with a delicate cleanse, just to remove residue and refresh the face without leaving that tight feeling that never helps. Then I apply a lightweight hydrating serum, of those that provide moisture and visually plump the skin, but without overloading it. For me, this is one of the steps that shows the most, because it helps the foundation to blend better and keeps the skin looking fresh and luminous, which is flattering in photos and in person.
Next comes the moisturizer, always in a moderate amount and adjusted to how the skin is that day. If I notice the face drier, I prefer a slightly more nourishing texture; if it’s more combo, I opt for a light formula. The key is to hydrate without leaving a heavy film, because one thing is seeking juiciness and another is that makeup begins to slide or lose hold.
I also like to take special care of the eye contour area, especially if I know I will use concealer. When that area is well hydrated, the makeup sits finer and lines are less noticeable. And if I want an extra glow, I reach for a hydrating or soothing mask a few hours before, as long as it is simple and not too intense. It leaves the skin especially pretty, but it’s best to remove the excess so that the foundation grips properly.
If the wedding is during the day, sunscreen remains essential. In that case, I choose light formulas and pleasant under makeup, and I let them settle well before starting to apply makeup. That small margin also helps prevent layers from mixing together too much and the finish to look cleaner.
My Essentials for Dewy Skin Before a Wedding
Limpiador facial revitalizante de Usu Cosmetics
Revitalizing Facial Cleanser by Usu Cosmetics
The first thing I always do before starting the routine is to use a facial cleanser. This is one of my favourite cleansers, featuring a soft and effective texture. The foaming facial cleanser guarantees a perfect cleanse, removing all impurities. Additionally, its high content of antioxidant ingredients provides energy and vitality.
Mascarilla facial Cryo Rubber Brightening de Dr.Jart+
Dr.Jart+ Cryo Rubber Brightening Facial Mask
After cleansing, it is time to take care of the skin with a mask. I stick with the brand’s facial mask that helps brighten, calm, and even out the tone with niacinamide. It also features peptides that provide a firming effect. It is ideal for dull and sensitive skin.
Sérum Niacinamide & Green Tea de Ondo Beauty 36.5.
Niacinamide & Green Tea Serum by Ondo Beauty 36.5
It is one of my favorite eye contour serums because it hydrates and wakes up the look. It contains green tea water from southern China, which replaces water as the first ingredient and provides antioxidants that protect the skin from free radicals such as pollution, stress, and UV rays, soothing and refreshing the skin and leaving it looking healthier.
Crema facial DayWear de Estée Lauder.
Estée Lauder DayWear Facial Cream
Undoubtedly, one of my absolute favorites creams for events is Estée Lauder. I always opt for the DayWear moisturizer that hydrates the skin, doesn’t leave a greasy feel and can even be mixed with foundation if you’re aiming for a more luminous effect. It also has SPF 15.
Sérum Advanced Night Repair de Estée Lauder.
Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum
Sérums are indispensable in any routine, and even more so in a special one like being a wedding guest. In my facial routine, one of the world’s best-selling serums is always present. I’m talking about Estée Lauder’s serum. It is the Advanced Night Repair serum. It leaves the skin dewy, hydrated and even in tone.
Sérum Great Skin de Merit.
Merit Great Skin Serum
Normally when events are special I like to use two serums. Serums contain more potent actives that help hydrate, give glow to the skin, or unify the tone. For this occasion, I’ve mixed Estée Lauder’s serum with this new one I’ve tried from Merit. A serum that has helped me add a touch of radiance to the face.
Bruma facial Agua de Belleza de Caudalíe
Caudalíe Beauty Water Facial Mist
To set makeup I usually vary, but if I’m looking to hydrate the skin I stick with this Caudalíe-brand facial mist. It is a 100% natural facial mist with numerous properties. It revives the radiance of the complexion, minimizes pores, and sets makeup.
What is important to avoid on the skin right before a wedding?
There is another important part of this routine that isn’t always talked about: what I avoid. Right before a wedding it isn’t advisable to experiment with new cosmetics, to persist with aggressive exfoliation, or to saturate the skin with too many layers. Anything that irritates, alters, or destabilizes the face can end up more noticeable once makeup is applied.
