It was the Royal Household, through the weekly agenda, that made it explicit that Felipe VI and Letizia, together with Queen Sofía, will be at the monarch’s final farewell.
In this manner, the kings and the queen mother will travel to Oslo for the state funeral of King Harald V that will take place on September 9. A farewell that will follow in the footsteps of the funerals of his predecessors, his grandfather Haakon VII and his father Olav V, although adapted to the times.
The friendship that unites Felipe VI with the new king, Haakon VIII, and the special bond that exists between them, since he is the godfather to his daughter, the heiress Ingrid Alexandra, are among the main reasons that certify the monarchs’ travel to the Norwegian capital.

Por otro lado, no es de extrañar la presencia de la reina Sofía, ya que es prima tercera de Harald V al ser ambos tataranietos de la reina Victoria de Reino Unido por un lado, y de Christian IX de Dinamarca por otro. Además, Juan Carlos I -no está confirmada su asistencia- también era primo del fallecido y fueron muy amigos.

Además, se trata de un funeral de Estado, un acto institucional al que acudirán otros representantes de las casas reales y autoridades, tanto nacionales como internacionales. The Oslo Cathedral donde tendrá lugar el funeral cuenta con algo menos de 1.000 asientos por lo que se espera que sea un evento multitudinario.

Estarán los reyes Carlos XVI Gustavo y Silvia de Suecia, junto a sus tres hijos, sus yernos, su nuera; los reyes Federico y Mary de Dinamarca, junto al príncipe heredero Christian, la reina Margarita y la princesa Benedicta; y los reyes Guillermo y Máxima de Holanda, su hija mayor, la princesa Amalia, y la antigua reina, la princesa Beatriz.
También estarán los reyes Felipe y Matilde de Bélgica; los grandes Duques Guillermo y Stéphanie de Luxemburgo y el padre de él; el príncipe Alberto de Mónaco; y los príncipes herederos Alois y Sofia de Liechtenstein, así como los herederos de Japón, Fumihito y Kiko. De la casa real británica, de momento, no hay confirmación oficial de quien asistirá.
