Milano Fashion Week, held in the Italian city until September 28, continues to demonstrate that artisanal luxury is the innate identity mark of the masters of the made in Italy. Also its true wealth, as Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana affirm. We have seen it in Etro’s ethereal proposals and also in Fendi’s new femininity. In Prada’s immaculate skirts and, even, in Diesel’s rebellion. And, of course, we have witnessed it in Max Mara’s sublime tailoring. Precisely in this show we coincide with actress Kate Mara, one of the major frontrunners of the front row on this third day of Milan Fashion Week, and we spoke with her at the foot of the runway.

Amid great anticipation and surrounded by flashes and dozens of journalists trying to secure her comments, the actress stops with MUJERHOY to share with us her impressions of the show on the runway and, also, her style secrets. With sincere warmth and her personal elegance, Kate Mara represents the philosophy of the Italian house to a tee, a label with which she has maintained a close relationship for more than a decade, when in 2015 she received the Women in Film (WIF) Max Mara Face of the Future Award.

At the end of the show, Kate Mara did not hesitate to confess the deep fascination the spectacle seen at the iconic Palazzo del Ghiaccio in Milan had produced. «There were so many precious pieces…», she enthusiastically recalled as she remembered each of the looks that made up the Max Mara collection. However, if she had to pick one particular proposal, the actress had a very clear choice.

«Actually I love a white piece that was gorgeous. It’s a white coat over white trousers and a white top, a complete look that I thought was impressive». Her answer, faithful reflection of her own style, could not be more in line with the proposal that the Italian firma presented in Milan: Max Mara bets on the sublimation of tailoring, the impeccable pattern-making, and a monochrome palette as its great identifying marks.

During the MUJERHOY interview with the actress, we asked about the power of accessories and which accessory is essential in her looks, the one without which she cannot imagine going out, and Mara is categorical: «sunglasses». She points to the ones she herself wears during our chat, a dark model with a retro touch from the brand. It is not the first time, nor do we suspect the last, that we will see her with this star accessory in her looks.

Her work as an actress has led Kate Mara to inhabit many women and to dress in a thousand and one forms, so we asked about her screen references and stylistic inspirations. The unforgettable Zoe Barnes from House of Cards smiles because she has it clear: «Great question… I love Carrie and the Sex and the City wardrobe. She has some really good shoes».

A reference in cinema and television, but also on red carpets and in street style, having her in front of us in a setting such as Milan Fashion Week makes it inevitable to ask for a style tip. Lover of vintage, as she herself confesses, Kate Mara shies away from rigid dogmas to focus on personal well-being. «I think the best style advice is to wear something that makes you feel secure», she responds without the slightest doubt.

So true is it that attempting to pigeonhole the actress’s wardrobe into a closed concept is an impossible task, something she herself acknowledges with a laugh when challenged to summarize it. «Define your style in three words», we propose. Impossible challenge: «I could not describe it in three words, it cannot be done!», she spontaneously admits. We raise the stakes to five words. «My style changes daily, it depends on what I have to do. I have three children, so if I’m with them it’s very casual. If it’s hot I always wear a summer dress, and if it’s autumn, that is my favorite style: jackets, scarves, and hats».

That, of course, does not mean that Mara is not up to date with the latest trends. The one she would like to test in her upcoming looks? «Socks with loafers. I think it looks very cute with a little skirt», she admits before insisting that she does not close herself off to almost anything in terms of fashion. «Never say never», she concluded to close our chat.
