Nike Dunks was first released in 1985. They were released as high-top basketball sneakers. “Be true to your school'' was Nike's first marketing campaign for the Nike Dunks. It offered college basketball teams a way to wear their colorway of Dunks. Fast forward to recent years Nike Dunks have become one of the most popular sneaker silhouettes being so universal to wear.
