“Wrinkles are beautiful” is one of the most emblematic quotes of the great Adolfo Domínguez —the cover of Mujer Hoy’s September issue— and, with his new collection presented at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid, he once again proves that there are no limits, while also celebrating his 50th anniversary. In fact, his proposal is called “Croma,” an SS27 collection that manages to understand color as a meticulous investigation from the scientific, the creative, and the emotional. But what is color really?
“With Croma we set out to delve deeper into color itself. We studied its scientific properties and worked on the idea that color does not exist; it is a reflection of the light that falls on objects. The collection is a proposal that arises from experimentation and curiosity,” says Tiziana Domínguez, design director of Adolfo Domínguez.
Even Adriana Domínguez, the firm’s chief executive, notes: “It is an honor to present Croma at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid in the year we celebrate half a century. We know that success comes from continuing to be a modern brand without losing our essence: taking your legacy and launching it in a thousand innovative directions, like a kaleidoscope, and having fun with it,” Adriana Domínguez said.
We must not forget that the collection features lightweight, airy, iridescent fabrics, such as organza, taffeta, poplin or gazaar. The color palette starts from natural hues, which are accentuated with lime, mandarin, and olive tones. Red and yellow also take center stage. Moreover, as key silhouettes, drop-waist dresses and denim jeans inspired by the 2000s stand out. And we cannot forget how the Málaga-born singer Pablo Alborán has been part of the brand’s casting.

In short, Adolfo Domínguez, inside the Greenhouse of the Crystal Palace in Arganzuela, shows us that color is not something static, but a perception conditioned by the light of the observer. The collection is a result full of beauty through experimentation and the ongoing desire for investigation, but above all a way of continuing to open horizons within the Spanish brand. Perhaps true innovation does not lie in inventing new colors, but in learning to look at the colors we already know in a different way.
