Spanish fashion deserves a toast. And a tribute. Therefore, at the start of Madrid Fashion Week, the inaugural show of OMODA Madrid es Moda, celebrated on the imposing natural runway of the Sabatini Gardens, has crowned its first day with a Toast in Honor of Spanish Fashion by Glo™* in which the career of five of the most prominent designers on the national scene has been recognized: Devota&Lomba, Helena Rohner, Maison Mesa and Dominnico.

Designers and industry-involved guests gathered, in an intimate and emotionally charged atmosphere, to celebrate together the sector’s achievements and exalt the work of all those who, stitch by stitch, masterfully weave the fabric of our country’s author fashion. “It is a red thread that connects each of us in a very special way: the red thread that sews fashion,” stated Pepa Bueno, Executive Director of ACME, referring to one of the symbols that represents the unity of the project in this edition of OMODA Madrid es Moda.

«And what better way to meet today at this intimate toast to represent what OMODA Madrid es Moda stands for: a community that supports each other and that, with this action, with this tribute, represents all of us #fandelamodaespañola», stated an emotional Bueno, who acted as master of ceremonies and was in charge of announcing the names of the honorees. “Some of them are just finding out right now; it’s a surprise,” she assured.

This Toast in Honor of Spanish Fashion by Glo™*, an event that is here to stay on the official calendar of OMODA Madrid es Moda, was sponsored by Glo™*. OMODA Madrid es Moda counts in this edition with OMODA as Global Partner, the sponsorship of Cecotec, Estée Lauder, IED, Keune, Solán de Cabras, Unisa and Velo*, in addition to the collaboration of Hotel Príncipe Pío, Paccari and Camilo de Blas.

The recognitions were presided over by the expert voice of the OMODA Madrid es Moda Fashion Selection Committee, composed of Sergio Álvarez, director of the Foundation Academy of the Spanish Fashion; Alejandra Caro, also a patron of the Foundation Academy of the Spanish Fashion and international expert in luxury fashion; and Eloy Martínez de la Pera, curator of art and fashion exhibitions. They were joined by Javier de la Torre, Events and Entertainment Activation Executive of Glo and Velo, BAT brands. Dominnico, 10th Anniversary

Dominnico was the first honoree of the night “for its 10th anniversary, but also for having built a unique universe that has connected pop icons and new aesthetic codes. It has reached a young audience not only in Spain but beyond, and has dressed major representatives of the international music scene,” Pepa Bueno asserted.

Sergio Álvarez, Director of the Foundation Academy of Spanish Fashion, presents the award to Dominnico, to Clara Courel.

The designer, who could not attend the tribute, was represented by Clara Courel, fashion journalist, ambassador, muse and head of communications of the brand, who received one of Felipao’s exclusive awards for the occasion from Sergio Álvarez. “I met him in 2018 at the Samsung EGO, when he was 22, and what I saw blew me away. We quickly hit it off, we became friends. Then we started working together and what I like most about Domingo is that he still remains faithful to all those things he did ten years ago. He remains faithful to upcycling, to inclusion, to a recognizable personal style, to the pop stars,” Courel recalled in her thank-you speech.

Maison Mesa, 10th Anniversary

Next, Javier de la Torre delivered his recognition to , “a brand built from craft and perseverance, which has successfully managed to bring its own project to life without losing its essence,” Pepa Bueno assured about the label, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary.

Javier de la Torre, Events and Entertainment Activation Executive of Glo y Velo, BAT brands, delivered the award to Juan Carlos Mesa, creative director of Maison Mesa.

Mesa, moved and elated, acknowledged that «it is even better that it is a tribute than a prize. Because for me OMODA Madrid es Moda is very important. Very important for its people, very important for the city, very important for the crafts, very important for all the people behind it and that you don’t see».

Helena Rohner, 30th Anniversary

Alejandra Caro presented the award to Helena Rohner, who has spent thirty years proving that jewelry can be a form of thought. “Her career and international projection have made her one of the great references in contemporary Spanish jewelry,” Pepa Bueno said of the Canarian designer.

“Thirty years working with the same enthusiasm,” Rohner acknowledged, who offered an interesting reflection: “it is very interesting to look back. Designers always look ahead, and stopping to understand where you come from and everything you have done is very important.”

Devota&Lomba, 40th Anniversary

The final recognition of the evening, and perhaps one of the most emotional moments, was the tribute to 40 years of fashion for Devota&Lomba. “A label that has developed an identity recognizable for the purity of its lines, its research in patternmaking, and an architectural conception of the silhouette,” Pepa Bueno noted. Yet the ACME Executive Director also referred to the designer behind the brand: “Modesto has played a fundamental role in defending, representing, and promoting Spanish author fashion. And he put up with me… He has been my boss for 13 years,” Bueno said emotionally. “We should give him an award for that alone,” she joked before exchanging a heartfelt hug with the former president of the Spanish Fashion Creators Association.

Eloy Martínez de la Pera, curator of art and fashion exhibitions, presents the award to Modesto Lomba, creative director of Devota&Lomba.

Upon receiving his award from Eloy Martínez de la Pera, Modesto Lomba stated emotionally that “together we have done a magnificent job, not only individually, but also collectively.” The creative director also offered thanks to Pepa Bueno, “for being the ideologue of Madrid es Moda, for having that magnificent idea more than 10 years ago.” He concluded his speech by thanking “all those who believe in Spanish fashion.”
