Harry and Meghan Could Return to the UK Today: What We Know About Their Return

The day may have arrived: according to the BBC, Harry and Meghan could return today to the United Kingdom. The family could arrive from California on a private flight, although no further information has emerged about the exact moment this will take place. The most that a spokesperson for the couple has stated is that “this is not something we are going to comment on.”

The news that Harry and Meghan were returning to his homeland to stay arrived just a week ago, triggering widespread surprise in the international press. According to the BBC as well, King Charles III became aware of this move in early August, despite the fact that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had visited him in July at his Highgrove residence, though they did not present their intentions at that time.

Far from resuming any official agenda, Harry and Meghan return as private citizens and without official security. They would establish their home in the Cotswolds area, on the outskirts of London, in a private residence, and will send their children Lilibet and Archie to a school in which, by the way, they are already enrolled and where the new school year will begin next week.

The reason for their return remains a mystery for everyone, although what we do know is that they will not participate as active members of the royal family nor will they use any Crown housing. It is worth recalling that, until 2020, the family lived in Frogmore Cottage, a property gifted to them by the late Queen Elizabeth II and which they lost in 2023, which would obligate them to search for a new home.

Another question that comes to mind when we talk about this imminent yet unexpected return is how they will be received by British citizens. It is no secret that Meghan Markle and Harry are among the least popular members of the royal family, although in recent years the prince has gained some points in the polls, something that has not been the case for the former actress.

And, along with the reception from the public, we are also curious to know how they will be received by their own relatives. Is this the moment of reconciliation? Perhaps the Sussexes’ move is due to a rapprochement between the children of Charles and Diana? So far, everything is speculation, for the real reason for their return remains a mystery to all, and we will have to wait to see how this affects the kings and the Prince and Princess of Wales.

Why Harry and Meghan Left the United Kingdom

In 2020 the famous “Megxit” occurred, the moment when Harry and Meghan announced that they were leaving the United Kingdom to go and live in California, in search of financial independence and privacy. Alongside the scandal that this decision sparked, there was the announcement that the Sussexes renounced their roles as active members of the British royal family, aided by issues of mental health, conflicts with the sensationalist press, and a lack of institutional support that revealed the tension that had been brewing for months within their family.

That was the moment when Harry, Meghan and little Archie would move to Montecito, a place where their family would grow and where they had often said they were happy. However, the ties with the British crown were never fully broken, and it was not precisely because of their role in it, but because during their stay in the United States they have publicly and on numerous occasions recounted the various conflicts they have endured that pushed them to radically change their lives.

Now the life of the Sussexes returns to that starting point, but nothing is the same. Only time will tell to resolve all the questions raised by this move, and we can only stay tuned to the current British news to start tying up the loose ends. For now, everything points to the new era of Harry and Meghan about to begin and that a new chapter in the history of this peculiar family has only just begun to be written.
