The result is known as golfcore, a trend that translates to everyday wardrobes the most recognizable codes of golf attire: collared polos, pleated skirts, pleated trousers, knitted vests, caps, stripes and light color combinations. You don’t need to play this sport to wear it. In fact, its success lies precisely in the garments working well beyond the green.
The golfcore can be understood as a summer evolution of the preppy style. It shares with it knitwear, defined collars, stripes, and a certain collegiate air, but it removes part of its rigidity. The garments are lighter, the shoes more comfortable, and the silhouettes adapt better to high temperatures.
This connection explains why the trend is particularly elegant. Instead of relying on bold prints or excessive adornments, it builds outfits through clean cuts, high-quality fabrics and a palette based on white, beige, navy blue, green, powder pink or butter yellow.
Why it works especially well in summer
Golf attire is designed to allow movement and stay comfortable for several hours outdoors. That’s why it habitually uses lightweight garments, breathable fabrics and patterns that don’t cling too closely to the body. These characteristics naturally fit what we look for as temperatures rise.
A cotton or fine-knit polo, for example, feels as fresh as a T-shirt, but its collar provides a much more polished appearance. A pleated skirt creates movement and can substitute for shorts, while pleated Bermuda shorts maintain comfort without losing structure.
It also contributes its ability to cover different moments of the day. An outfit formed by polo and white pants can be worn with sneakers in the morning and transformed later with ballet flats, a leather belt and a structured bag. That ease of moving from the course to a cafe or to the city is precisely one of the directions current golf fashion is taking.
