Who Cares for Tita Thyssen: Her Housekeeper, Her Maid Eugenia, and Her Nephew

The health of the Baroness Thyssen has been a matter of concern and speculation in recent weeks. The well-known aristocrat and art collector had to be hospitalized at the beginning of last month at a clinic in Barcelona after suffering a severe pneumonia. At that time, her three children, Borja and the twins Carmen and Sabina, traveled to the Catalan city to be by their mother’s side.

Having overcome the scare, Tita Thyssen was discharged and moved to Mas Mañanas, her residence on the Costa Brava, where she has continued to recover since then. There she is cared for by a small trusted staff and by her closest family. In addition to her children, she is also closely watched over by her nephew Guillermo, who is her right-hand man.

Having hardly given any statements since then, the widow of Baron Hans Heinrich von Thyssen-Bornemisza did want to respond to rumors about a worsening of her health. Through the magazine ¡Hola! she stated emphatically that “none of what they say is true” and denied that she was under medical supervision or that she had suffered any kind of relapse.

The latest update on her health came just a few hours ago from one of her closest collaborators. Evelio Acevedo, managing director of the Thyssen Museum, confirmed to the media that the baroness had suffered “a significant pneumonia, but fortunately she has recovered.” He also assured that, although she needs “time and rest, she is fortunately much better”.

With the goal of recovering completely, at 83 years old the baroness Thyssen remains in a kind of isolation regime at Mas Mañanas, although she has been seen leaving her Sant Feliu de Guíxols home on occasion. There she receives constant visits from her children Borja and Carmen, but it is Sabina who has settled on the Costa Brava to be by her side 24 hours a day.

Alongside them, the presence of Miguel, her lifetime bodyguard, and that of two women who have become essential in her daily life stands out. The first is the housekeeper of Tita Thyssen. An employee who takes on the responsibility of organizing that the household runs like clockwork. It is she who controls her calendar, her meals, and is aware of everything surrounding her recent illness.

On the other hand, there is Eugenia, her personal maid and housekeeper. With many years at the service of the aristocrat, both in Andorra and on the Costa Brava, she has become a key piece of her current praetorian guard. After focusing on the past, more on the baroness’s twins, she now attends to her well-being full-time.

Guillermo, Tita Thyssen’s Favorite Nephew

One of the people who is most attentive to the baroness is Guillermo Cervera, her nephew and right-hand man. The son of the baroness’s only brother, also named Guillermo and who died in 2003, has years been quietly controlling the baroness Thyssen’s art collection from the shadows. He has also served as tutor to her daughters Carmen and Sabina.

Guillermo went from being a renowned pastry chef to occupying the role of curator and artistic director of the Andorra Museum Foundation, and he is like a son to the aristocrat. In recent days he has been seen frequently coming and going to the Sant Feliu house and was one of the few guests at the baroness’s 83rd birthday celebration last April 23.
