That detail, which we often overlook in the store, is precisely what turns a dress into a practical and durable purchase.
Crepe, one of the fabrics that lasts the best
If the priority is for the dress to stay impeccable for many hours, crepe appears as one of the most interesting options. According to Datorre, «for those looking for a garment that remains impeccable for many hours, quality crepes are one of the best options».
The designer explains that this type of fabric «wrinkles very little, easily resumes its shape and maintains the drape and the structure of the dress even after sitting, walking, traveling or dancing for hours». That’s why it works so well in guest dresses, event wear, or designs we want to wear for an entire day without worrying about how the fabric looks.

Crepe also has another advantage: it provides structure without becoming rigid. It tends to be flattering because it follows movement, has a good drape and allows the dress to keep a more polished presence. In summer, this makes it a good alternative for those seeking an elegant garment without having to constantly iron.
Linen, silk, cotton and viscose: fresh, but with natural wrinkling
Now, just because a fabric wrinkles doesn’t necessarily mean it’s worse. In fact, some of the most pleasant fibers for summer are precisely those that tend to crease more. «Natural and light fibers, such as pure linen, silk, cotton voile or viscose, are especially pleasant during the hot months», notes Datorre.
They are cool, breathable fabrics with a natural drape that adds movement and beauty to dresses. However, by the very nature of their fibers, they can also wrinkle more. «A pure linen wrinkles, and that slightly lived-in look is part of its charm», explains the founder of BOÜRET. The same can happen with silk, which marks with movement, or with viscose, which can show small wrinkles after several hours of wear.
Another important point is that it isn’t enough to look at the composition label. Two linen dresses can behave very differently. The same goes for silk or viscose. «The quality of the fiber, the weight, the structure of the fabric and the finishes used during manufacturing directly influence its drape, wrinkle resistance and ease of care», says Datorre.

That’s why a high-quality viscose can wrinkle less, have a better drape and recover its shape better. And a well-chosen silk can be easier to iron and maintain than a more delicate fabric. In short, the fabric matters, but so do the weight, the finish and the construction.
Linen blends, a good solution for summer
From CLOTSY BRAND, designer Laura López Chesa also focuses on linen, one of the most searched-for fabrics when the heat arrives. «It’s true that linen wrinkles, and that’s one of its best-known characteristics», she explains. However, the Valencian firm works with blends that help soften that effect.
«In our collection, the dresses are made from a linen and viscose blend, which slightly reduces wrinkles», notes López Chesa. In other pieces, like shorts and vests, they combine linen and cotton, a composition that also helps minimize wrinkling compared to pure linen.
These blends are interesting because they keep many of linen’s virtues, but with a somewhat kinder result for everyday wear. The dress retains freshness, texture and natural look, but can be easier to wear if we’re going to spend many hours outside the house or if we want a garment that lasts better with use.

Laura López Chesa emphasizes a point that’s worth keeping in mind: we shouldn’t always expect natural fibers to have an impeccably flawless finish. «Personally, I think assuming that materials like linen or cotton wrinkle is part of understanding and valuing natural fibers,» explains the designer of CLOTSY BRAND.
For her, that wrinkle “is not a defect, but a display of authenticity, quality and sustainability.” And it’s an interesting reflection at a moment when many garments are valued for always looking perfect, even if that means giving up important properties such as breathability or comfort.
Synthetic fabrics can offer a smoother appearance and easier maintenance, but they aren’t always as pleasant when temperatures rise. As López Chesa reminds us, natural fibers stand out for their breathability, comfort, durability, and, when produced responsibly, for a lower environmental footprint.
What dress to choose to last longer in your wardrobe
If we’re looking for a dress that wrinkles little, quality crepe is a safe bet, especially in more polished or guest-ready designs. If we’re seeking absolute freshness, linen, cotton, silk or viscose remain great allies, although it’s worth accepting that they will have a more natural wrinkling. And if we want a middle ground, linen-cotton or linen-viscose blends can be one of the smartest summer purchases.
The best investment isn’t necessarily the dress that never wrinkles, but the one that adapts to our pace of life. One that is cool, comfortable, easy to care for, flattering and able to maintain a good drape as hours pass. Because in summer, a good dress not only has to look good when you leave the house: it also has to keep working after sitting, walking, traveling, dancing or spending the whole day out.
