When we talk about trends in aesthetic medicine, the idea of “completely changing” one’s appearance has fallen by the wayside; now the aim is to enhance the best in each patient while respecting their essence. And, beyond seeking an immediate aesthetic change, aesthetic medicine focuses on caring for the skin from within, prevent aging and enhance naturalness through minimally invasive techniques.
However, the use of techniques such as botox, lip augmentation or treatments to regain volumes and treat sagging remain the most in demand. Options that progress toward surgical procedures in the case of the older profiles like the well-known blepharoplasty that Carmen Lomana recently underwent.

The socialite posted on her Instagram profile that she had chosen this technique to look better. “I’m going to combine a blepharoplasty with a small anchoring point at the eyebrows” to achieve what they call: a celebrity gaze, she said alongside a video posted on her profile.
“Ever since I saw it on my friend Carmen, I haven’t been able to get it out of my head. And the other day, while I was applying makeup to go out for dinner, I realized that the shadow no longer suited me as before… That’s when I thought: now, yes, the moment has arrived,” confessed Carmen Lomana.
Carmen Lomana has undergone blepharoplasty at Diego de León Clinics.
Also known as eyelid surgery, it has consolidated as one of the most demanded cosmetic procedures worldwide for its ability to rejuvenate and revitalize the gaze in a natural way. It is a surgical procedure that improves the appearance of the eye contour, providing a more rested, luminous, and harmonious look.
Dr. Juan Andrade, a surgeon at Clínicas Dorsia, adds that “it is a surgery performed on the eyelids to correct aesthetic problems such as excess skin and fat bags,” factors that can give the face a fatigued and aged appearance.
There are two types of blepharoplasty
The expert explains that there are two types of blepharoplasty. The upper, which focuses on removing redundant skin and eliminating two fat bags located in an inner and a middle compartment, and the lower, which treats three fat packets, including an internal, middle, and external one.
“Depending on the patient’s needs, this procedure can be performed through the conjunctiva, a thin layer that covers the inside of the eyelids and part of the eye (if there is no skin to remove) or with an incision along the lower lash line,” says Dr. Andrade.
The most common reasons patients opt for this surgery are to “improve the gaze and the opening of the eye,” as well as to remove the heaviness of the upper eyelids, the doctor notes. Which basically means avoiding the so-called eyelid hooding that is so concerning nowadays.
This intervention not only has aesthetic benefits, but can also help patients feel rejuvenated and gain greater confidence in their appearance. Although the doctor warns that one must be careful with expectations. “We have to be very clear and honest with our patients about the results, as not everyone responds in the same way,” he says.
The most common profile of patients requesting a blepharoplasty is people over 40 years old, especially from 50 onwards. However, Dr. Andrade explains that procedures are also performed on younger people who present bags in the lower eyelids due to genetic factors.
