Penélope Cruz took the spotlight last weekend as she collected the Icon Award at the Academy Museum Gala, a recognition of her extensive film career that marked her public return at a gala held in Los Angeles. And, as expected, for such an important event the actress chose a spectacular look that, of course, was led by a Chanel dress.

As a faithful ambassador of the French house, Penélope returned to trust the maison with a white slip dress featuring straps and sequin appliqués. However, it wasn’t just this beautiful piece that drew attention. Once again, Penélope Cruz showed off her luscious hair, though this time with a mane very different from what we had seen until now.

A few weeks ago, the actress was one of the VIP guests at the Chanel show held for Paris Fashion Week. In the front row, she wore long, dark hair with some contrasting highlights. But to receive her award and be the night’s main star, the actress entrusted her look to Dimitris Giannetos, the hair stylist trusted by numerous celebrities and one of the most in-demand professionals at the moment.

Penélope went from an XL mane to a voluminous, glossy midi cut, similar to Amal Clooney. The actor’s wife made a radical change, shedding more than half of her hair length, achieving a rejuvenating effect.

Demi Moore, Kim Kardashian or Alessandra Ambrosio are among the other stars who have also tried Giannetos’s talent. A list to which Penélope Cruz has now joined. And the stylist himself has shared on his social networks the result of the actress’s new look, the fruit of a couture blowout cut. This style is based on long layers that are brushed with the ends inward to add volume and thickness.

But that is not all. The secret of the change also lies in highlights that the expert defines as a “caramel flan,” the perfect shade to illuminate brown bases for autumn and winter. The result, as expected, has been simply spectacular.

And despite having its detractors, color work is something that never fails. In fact, the latest studies in the market pointed out that at least 60% of Spaniards wear some hair coloring treatment. And Penélope has been one of the latest to confirm how good a well-chosen color looks.

Caramel-colored mousy hair highlights

But what exactly has been done? We could say she has resorted to the mousy hair style, a technique popularized by Kim Kardashian’s hairstylist, Chris Appleton. It is a technique of highlights perfect for brown-haired hair as it adds light to the dark base.

It is very flattering and subtle; in fact, the highlights are almost imperceptible to the eye, as if the mane had been kissed by the sun. Hailey Bieber, model Taylor Hill, or Dakota Johnson have already fallen for this coloring. And if you’re looking to brighten your mane, the mousy hair highlights will inject a subtle, yet very pretty, shine to your hair.

Rosa Roselló, director of training at Druni, explains that this technique with the caramel touch is a real win. “One of the best things about this shade is that it is universally flattering. Brown and caramel tones pair with any skin color, enhancing features and adding warmth to the face,” confirms the expert.

Also, another advantage of this look change is that it is ideal for chilly days, as it adds warmth to any look and, moreover, is incredibly easy to maintain. “As it is not platinum blonde nor a solid dark shade, it grows out very naturally, which means fewer visits to the salon and fewer worries about roots. Additionally, the warm and natural highlights that characterize it let the hair look full of life and movement,” the expert concludes.
