The arrival of good weather means a wardrobe change, and in that exercise of reviewing what we keep or what is unthinkable to wear this season, there is room to introduce new quality basics that are available, elegant, and timeless.
My French grandmother has spent her whole life telling me how important it is to build a wardrobe designed specifically to cover our needs. It’s a message that’s reaching more and more people. We see it in the 333 rule, with the Marie Kondo books or with the Sofía Hamela’s videos. It’s no longer trendy to have an overcrowded closet; in 2026, the only thing we want is a practical one where it is easy to see (and find) our garments.
For this, straight cuts and simple patterns tend to be the best allies, just as neutral tones do. However, that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for special pieces or for pops of color. A capsule wardrobe is not synonymous with ‘boring’ but rather with functional elegance. And if you’re looking for inspiration, these have been my latest purchases.
In my ranking: the most wearable and elegant basics
Tommy Hilfiger mid-rise straight jeans, 99.90 euros.
Tommy Hilfiger mid-rise straight jeans, 99.90 euros. It’s one of the most reliable basics you can have in any capsule wardrobe. Its cut flatters without tightening, and its timeless essence means you can wear it with blouses and shirts, as well as with tops or short-sleeve tees.
Ralph Lauren striped sleeveless knit top, 145 euros.
Ralph Lauren striped sleeveless knit top, 145 euros. All my French friends have one because it pairs with jeans, skirts, or tailored pieces. You can wear it to the office, in your vacation suitcase, and even with a brunch with friends.
Scalpers Capri pants set: pants 59.99 euros and top 49.99 euros.
Scalpers Capri pants set: pants 59.99 euros and top 49.99 euros. What I like about this set is that it stands out because it is simple and has a very flattering cut. Wear it with sneakers, flats, or sandals, and you’ll achieve a clean, current look that never goes out of style.
Adolfo Domínguez light gray suit with Bermuda shorts: Bermuda 199 euros and blazer 299 euros.
Adolfo Domínguez light gray Bermuda suit: Bermuda 199 euros and blazer 299 euros. It is a more modern alternative to the classic oversized suit. Its tone is easy to wear in spring, and I think it’s a very simple way to update your wardrobe. The best part is that it doesn’t go out of fashion; and it will allow you to change the look, whether you wear it with shirts or with lingerie-style tops.
Easy Wear dark-tone printed long dress, 29.95 euros.
Easy Wear dark-tone printed long dress, 29.95 euros. This dress is one of those basics that solve any look in seconds. The print in dark tones is easy to combine, and the long cut provides comfort and a lot of movement. Ideal to wear with flat sandals and a tote bag.
Sandro striped long skirt set: skirt 245 euros and top 145 euros.
Sandro striped long skirt set: skirt 245 euros and top 145 euros. This combo is perfect for days when you want something comfortable but with a sophisticated edge. You can wear it as is or mix each piece separately with other items in your wardrobe. Also, it has a French touch that I love.
