Transitional looks aren’t easy. You have to be willing to use the layering technique, and not every day does divine inspiration come to see you. In the mornings it’s cold, at noon it’s hot, and then it starts to cool again. It’s complicated. Especially after months living on lightweight dresses, sandals, and swimsuits. So, yes, getting up at eight to spend twenty minutes looking at your wardrobe without knowing what to wear isn’t appealing at all.
But what if I told you that the secret lies in not overthinking it? Over the years I’ve learned that less is more, and that often, it’s enough to rely on formulas you know always work. The capsule wardrobe helps a lot in these moments, since its pieces are simple, timeless, and very easy to mix with each other.
Also, if what you need are ideas, my trick is to copy outfits from many of my favorite fashion influencers, especially if they’re French, Italian, or Danish. The good news is that they are proposals you can wear from early morning to late afternoon.
Good transitional looks for September
Neutral tones. For me, it’s one of the best-kept secrets. When you have neutrals that harmonize with each other, the result always looks elegant. It can be via a shirt and skirt as here, or through pants and a T-shirt.
Different suit. I confess: 95% of the days when I don’t know what to wear and I’m not in the mood to overthink, I opt for a suit with a different vibe. It can be in the shape, the color, or in an unexpected detail included (such as a bag, for instance). But you’ll always crush it.
Sporty lace. From the trends that prevail in this new season you’ll know that garments have stopped being worn exactly as you knew them. Now we mix pieces that apparently have nothing to do with each other. One of them is lace with sport-inspired bombers.
Tailored suit in neutral tones. As I mentioned, the elegant solution to your lack of inspiration (almost) always lies in a suit. This is yet another example that it works and that the result will be up to it.
Hints in trend. If you’re the type who doesn’t skip a single trend, opt for colors. Tones like green or red look irresistible when mixed. That said, try to keep every accessory neutral so the result remains sophisticated.
Preppy inspo. Another option is to lean toward aesthetics that always work, such as the preppy look. With a fresh take or without it, they manage to make your outfits look sophisticated and with that air of discreet luxury that is seen and perceived as so irresistible.
