The royal agenda for this week began with a solo appearance by Queen Sofía. On this first day, it was the former queen and King Felipe VI who participated in different commitments without Queen Letizia’s presence, whose last public appearance was Friday, during a surprise outing in which she wore a winter look that caused a sensation.
A style that has served as an inspiration for many, and Doña Sofía has joined in as well, who, for her part, chose a combination of garments perfect for looking elegant and warm for any upcoming special engagement you may have.
A few days ago she opted for what could be considered one of her best looks of 2025, and today she seemed to want to expand this list with a more casual and informal proposal, yet equally outstanding. As honorary president of the Atapuerca Foundation, Queen Sofía presented the Evolution Awards at an event held at the Burgos Conference and Auditorium Palace.
The mother of Felipe VI traveled to the Castilian-Leonese city to recognize the president of the Junta of Castilla y León and the co-founders patrons of the Atapuerca Foundation. And in this first edition of the event, Doña Sofía appeared very smiley and also very stylish.
Queen Sofía has presided over the Evolution Awards.
Maintaining her always affectionate, helpful, and approachable demeanor, she has proven she remains in excellent shape to handle institutional commitments as a member of the Spanish monarchy. And not only does she stand out for her impeccable attitude, but also for her style, consolidating herself as one of the best-dressed royals today.
For this occasion, she chose what we could define as her preferred style formula. As the base of the look, she opted for straight-cut black trousers. It is a basic piece that is usually the starting point for many of the outfits she uses for this type of engagements, and she always combines it with a special jacket, featuring a fabric, design, or print that is more original.

On this occasion she chose tweed, a fabric perfect for winter because it is very warm and has that thickness that inevitably evokes the holiday season. She did so in a jacket with a front gold-button closure and a checkered print that combines tones such as green, yellow, and blue. In addition, this pattern is adorned with small black specks that tie in with the velvet details on the lapels, neck, and pockets.
A sophisticated and very elegant garment that confirms Doña Sofía does not shy away from bold tones or from mixing colors, fabrics, and prints. The queen dares with pieces that make a statement and, although she tries to remain classic and traditional, she always adds a personal and distinctive touch.
Queen Sofía kept warm in a black down coat.
To complete the proposal, she added a black bag and matching heeled boots. The latter we have seen on several occasions and they seem to be that perfect shoe that goes with absolutely everything and that is comfortable and warm enough to face the cold days, especially when she has to stand for long periods.
As one would expect, Queen Sofía also drew a lot of attention to her jewelry. Her multiple bracelets were present, in addition to square-shaped earrings, and she highlighted the choice of a butterfly-shaped brooch, a piece she often uses and has worn on numerous occasions.
Finally, and considering the extremely low temperatures in the north of the country, the Queen chose to wear a padded coat. Not a woolen, elegant model: she preferred to ensure she stayed warm with this knee-length, three-quarter coat in black.
