María Casado is a familiar face on television for years. One of the country’s most recognized journalism figures, she began her career in radio and has been part of television, with a turning point that took her to Málaga with Antonio Banderas, a city that is now her home and where she resides with her two-year-old daughter. Since September 2024, the Catalan has returned to television, alongside Telecinco’s weekend news, and she shuttles between the two cities.

Beyond journalism and her role as President of the Television Academy, the presenter has embarked on a new venture with the L’Oréal Paris brand. Casado has become the new spokesperson for the iconic Revitalift Laser range. The brand challenged her to try their range for two months, and Casado has shown the changes and the before-and-after. A real challenge for someone who until recently did not have a constant beauty routine.

Maria Casado and Beauty

Her new role as spokesperson for L’Oréal Paris is something new for María Casado, as she had not previously represented any brand in the sector. For this reason she says she feels joy and a lot of responsibility. Has the phrase «I am worth it» ever been said? Casado believes that «it’s such a motivating slogan, with so much force… that it conveys a very powerful empowerment. I try to tell myself it every day, several times.» The journalist continues and states that «many women I admire are part of or have been part of the L’Oréal Paris family» and regarding the cream she highlights «it has been a real discovery for me. It works and I am delighted with it. It is already part of my daily routine».

Among her care pillars we find «in the mornings the moisturizing cream and sunscreen, never missing». When it comes to makeup, «both in my personal life and at work, the cleansing routine is also essential». If we talk about her presence on television, makeup is part of it and she has experienced the changes that have occurred. Regarding the products she considers that «they are very potent, but over the years they have become lighter, something to be grateful for». In this regard she adds that «already at 47 taking care of oneself is almost an obligation that I do with great affection. I take care of myself and pamper myself as much as I can».

Another important pillar of her television work are the stylists. About them, María Casado states that, together with the makeup artists, «they are artists; we are very lucky on television to have divine stylists». She adds about her role «they know our personality, our bodies, what suits us, what flatters us, what we like and what we don’t». Concluding that «this is always a team effort».

Málaga, her new home

After years linked to TVE, in 2021 María Casado made a radical turn in her life, leaving Madrid and her television job to move to Málaga. There, she worked with actor Antonio Banderas at Teatro del Soho. Alongside this life change, in 2023 she welcomed her daughter Daniela with her ex-partner Martina di Rosso. What is the reason for choosing Málaga as her home? María Casado recalls: «in the middle of the pandemic I decided to go live in Málaga. Antonio Banderas’s call and the desire to do new things were the push I needed». This change, despite returning to the beat of the newscasts, is something she would ‘repeat a thousand times. It has been the best decision. In Madrid I had forgotten how to live and in Málaga I learned to enjoy.’

And although she lives between the two cities, Málaga has carved a place in her heart despite spending weekends in Madrid working. In her free time, María Casado dedicates «to family, to my mother and to my daughter», if we talk about her hobbies among them are «walking by the beach, doing sports and being with friends». Friends like Antonio Banderas with whom she worked. The journalist recalls this experience and believes that «it has been a beautiful adventure by his side. Antonio is a friend. He is someone I care about a lot and he has taught me to dream big». An admiration she highlights «by his side I have done the most beautiful programs of my life and I hope to continue doing things with him».

Television, one of the loves of her life

María is a journalist through and through who loves her work and who stands out as one of the great names in the sector in our country. What made her want to dedicate herself to journalism? «Since I was very young, at 12 years old, I was fascinated by radio. The voices, the music… it was magical and hypnotic for me» affirms. She continues recalling, «I asked at home what I had to study to dedicate myself to that, and that is when I first heard the word journalism». In her career she has interviewed great names, but surely some have impacted her more than others. Casado notes «I will have done thousands of interviews. I don’t exaggerate. But every time I’m asked, I remember one I did with Steven Spielberg». As an anecdote from this encounter she recalls that she managed to get him to sign the movie ET after the interview. His films are part of my childhood». If we talk about who would be the person she would like to interview, the journalist believes she could not name a specific person, «I like people who have things to tell, people who have lived, whether well-known or anonymous».

Beyond the small screen, María is also President of the Television Academy. A role she has held since 2018, being the first woman to do so, and through it have passed great names in television such as Jesús Hermida, Manuel Campo Vidal or Antonio Mercero. Journalism since the birth of this body has changed; therefore, I ask what we must protect in the sector today. María Casado is blunt and states «the ability to work with freedom and one’s own voice». Beyond her great career, does María Casado feel there is something left for her to explore? The Catalan loves television and her work in front of the cameras, «but I am passionate about what is behind. Directing is what I like the most». In short, a profile that loves new challenges and that has won the affection of the Spanish public through her closeness.
