When temperatures exceed thirty degrees, we don’t just change our clothes or our beauty routine. We also change the way we perceive perfumes. Because fragrances that in winter seemed elegant to us are now too intense, while others that are much lighter are living their best moment. Perhaps that’s why I like to include a different scent that conveys freshness and does not disappear after a few minutes.
In that sense, aquatic perfumes are one of the most interesting fragrance families. Far from the marine scents that were so obvious years ago, current compositions are much more sophisticated. They blend notes of sea water, clean musks, mineral notes, sea breezes or transparent flowers to recreate that sensation of skin just out of the sea. The result are luminous, elegant fragrances that are very easy to wear, able to bring freshness for hours without overwhelming or saturating the environment.
That said, not all of them are the same. The best manage to balance that fresh opening with a base of soft woods, musks or amber that prolongs the staying power on the skin and prevents the aroma from fading too quickly. If they also incorporate citrus notes, tea, fig or Mediterranean herbs, the result tends to be even more elegant and refined.
