Elegant Godmother Earrings: How to Choose the Perfect Design

Earrings are one of the most important jewelry pieces in a godmother’s look. They are close to the face, appear in almost all photographs, and have the ability to transform a sober styling into something much more special. However, they are also one of the accessories with which it is easiest to go overboard: a design that is too large, too shiny or poorly coordinated can overload the ensemble and take away its elegance.

In the case of a godmother, the key is not to choose the most striking earrings, but those that best accompany the dress, the hairstyle and the type of wedding. Elegance usually depends on balance. If the look already has volume, embroidery, rhinestones, lace or a very prominent color, it is advisable to choose more refined pieces. If, on the other hand, the dress is simple, the earrings can become the detail that adds light, intention and personality.

Godmother earrings should be chosen with the dress in mind

The first criterion should always be the dress. It is not the same to accompany a plain crepe, silk or satin design as an outfit with prints, defined sleeves, a worked neckline or appliqués. When the dress has a strong presence, the earrings should act as an elegant complement, not as an element that competes with it.

For plain dresses, earrings with a bit more prominence work very well: crystal teardrops, voluminous gold pieces, reinterpretations of pearls, floral designs or earrings with colored stones. Conversely, if the dress has embroidery, lace, print or shine, it is better to opt for cleaner models: special hoops, jewel-button earrings, discreet pearls or elongated but slender designs.

The hairstyle changes the effect of earrings completely. With a low updo, a polished bun or a half-up, the earrings become more visible and allow for long, draped or movement-filled designs. They are a good option if you want to elongate the neck and add sophistication without the need for a necklace.

With loose hair or more natural hairstyles, it is advisable to choose earrings that stand out, but that do not catch or disappear among the hair. Medium models, textured hoops, large pearls or gold designs with an organic shape tend to work very well.

In short hair, a bob or a pixie, the earrings gain even more prominence. Here, sculptural designs, voluminous button-type earrings, soft asymmetric pieces or modern pearl models can look especially elegant.

Daytime or nighttime: not all earrings work the same

The time of the wedding also influences. For a daytime wedding, finishes that are less shiny tend to be more flattering: soft golds, pearls, natural stones, mother-of-pearl, artisanal designs or earrings with color but without excessive rhinestones. The idea is to add light without the result seeming too nocturnal.

For an afternoon or evening wedding, you can raise the intensity a little. Crystals, long teardrops, jewel earrings, polished metal or pieces with controlled shine fit better in this context. Yet, even at night, the godmother should avoid letting all the accessories compete with each other.

One of the most common mistakes is pairing very large earrings with a headpiece, a Pamela hat, mantilla or a flashy necklace. In a godmother, each element should have its own space. If the headpiece is the focal point, the earrings should be more discreet. If the earrings are the special piece, it is wise to reduce the rest of the jewelry.

With mantilla, for example, classic but refined earrings tend to work best: pearls, discreet teardrops, small bright stones or vintage-looking jewelry-inspired designs. With a Pamela hat or floral headpiece, it is preferable to avoid pieces that are too long or with too much movement, because they can create an excessive effect around the face.

They are from a new collection. They feature suspended lines, stepped geometries, and bursts of light that shape Celeste’s silhouette. “The piece interprets the ornamental language of Art Deco through an elongated and precise composition inspired by the movement of pleats and the linear structures found in Isabel Núñez’s designs,” Mumit explains.
