Dermatologist-Recommended Hand Creams for Total Hydration

I don’t know if this happens to you as well, but for me, every time winter begins, my hands dry out, crack, and lose all softness. It is a zone especially exposed—to cold, to constant washing, and to rubbing—and yet we tend to forget it until it starts to hurt or feel tight. On my last visit, my dermatologist explained to me that hand creams are essential to keeping the skin barrier intact and preventing the skin from losing hydration. Since then, I always carry one in my bag.

Now, not all are the same. The best ones combine hydration, nourishment and repair; and they usually contain ingredients like glycerin, shea butter, hyaluronic acid or ceramides, which help retain water and restore the skin from within. It is also recommended that they include antioxidants or panthenol, which calm irritation and reinforce the protective function.

Dermatologists insist on seeking formulas without drying alcohols and with a light texture, that absorbs quickly without leaving a greasy feel, so you can use them several times a day. A tip if you’re feeling lazy is to apply a thicker layer at night and cover your hands with cotton gloves to boost its repairing action. You’ll thank me the next day.
