Imagine you have at your disposal the wardrobe of Princess Caroline of Monaco. Yes, it’s a dream, and yes, you’re probably thinking about reinterpreting some of her most iconic looks as well. However, that is a privilege that only her two daughters, Charlotte Casiraghi and the Princess Alexandra of Hanover, can undertake. Both honor the distinctive style that defines them, though it is also true that they pay a lot of attention to their mother.

Not for nothing. She will always be one of the most elegant royals. In fact, the bride-to-be of the year has worn a very special skirt that her mother wore at her last public appearance. Alongside her uncle Alberto, her sister Charlotte, and Caroline, the princess did not want to miss the ceremony of the Prince Pierre Foundation of Monaco Awards.

While Princess Caroline surprised everyone with a very elegant blue dress and Charlotte Casiraghi again demonstrated that she is the best ambassador of less is more with a simple asymmetric black dress, the youngest in the line of succession sparked a memory with an original Prada skirt that her mother wore at the inauguration of the exhibition artmonte-carlo in Monaco, on April 28, 2017.

The most original skirt of the Monaco royal family

Just looking at it, you feel a crush. This midi skirt with an A-line silhouette stands out for its print of red lips on a black background. Nineteen years ago, Caroline of Monaco wore it with a fitted top with red piping at the neck and green feathers on the sleeves. Now, in 2026, Alexandra of Hanover has brought it into her own realm.

Her interpretation has been more minimalist, since leaving aside her mother’s striking knit, she opted for a black top with a round neck that let the skirt take center stage. They are two very different ways of wearing the same garment, but they also show that there are special pieces that should not be forgotten in the wardrobe.

History through looks

The black-and-white Chanel dress is not the only gem in Caroline of Monaco’s wardrobe that Alexandra has revived. Another instance can be found in January 2024, when she attended Chanel’s haute couture show in Paris wearing a black-and-white dress. We all recognized it, and that’s because her mother debuted it in 1990, and wore it again three years later.

Belonging to the Spring-Summer 1990 haute couture collection, it is a dress that gathered some of Chanel’s most recognizable codes and that, although created decades earlier, retained that contemporary look that only garments with a true history possess.

Did they wear it in the same way? No. The styles of mother and daughter safeguard some clearly marked differences. The mother wore it with a hat and gloves, but the daughter gave it a more youthful reading, through tights, stilettos, and a chain-strap bag. Simpler, but just as special.

Finally, you should know that her mother isn’t her only source of inspiration. In fact, just a few weeks ago we could see her wearing the gold Givenchy dress that her grandmother (Grace Kelly) wore at the pre-wedding of the then-Princess Sofia of Greece and Juan Carlos I. It looked impeccable on her, she looked incredibly elegant and, once again, she brought it into her own territory.
