Why Tulip Jeans Are Trending in Paris

The street style at Paris Fashion Week is one of the most important, as the French are always pioneers in spotting which trends are worth it and which will be relegated to the background. We’ve seen a passion for red, a surge in designer handbags worth investing in, and a new silhouette of jeans that, without a doubt, will give your daily looks a different air. We are talking about tulip jeans.

They are ideal for those who seek jeans that don’t take as much center stage as balloon jeans, barrel legs or bloomer pants. Coined in this way by the COS brand, their pattern isn’t as architectural, though it does feature a voluminous character at the hips that tapers toward the ankle.

It isn’t the first time fashion has played with the tulip silhouette in its designs. In fact, one of the pioneers was Christian Dior in 1953, when he created the famous line ‘Tulip‘ for his spring collection. The goal was to emphasize certain areas and adjust others to achieve a play of volumes, femininity, and perhaps a touch of drama. Now the same is pursued, but in a more casual context.

As with this type of silhouette, my advice to look flattering is to opt for garments and accessories that help balance proportions. A fitted sweater or cardigan, a tank top with a short tweed jacket, or pointed-toe shoes will become your best ally.

How to wear tulip jeans

Jeans with a short-sleeve t-shirt. I still think it’s one of the simplest (and most effective) combinations to assemble a look when you’re not sure what to wear. Plus, the great advantage is that it’s a perfect base for days with transitional weather when you need to add layers.

All-black look. It’s one of my favorite options because it always looks elegant and goes well with everything. You can go for a corset and pair it with a blazer; or opt for a sweater in the same color. The effect will be the same.
